Braun Unseats Donnelly in Hotly Contested Senate Race

Metro News is reporting that Republican Mike Braun has unseated incumbent Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly on Tuesday night. Braun was declared the winner when about 50 percent of precincts in the Hoosier state had their reporting in.

Donnelly’s seat was considered one of the most vulnerable in the country, making it a closely watched race. Donnelly conceded the race around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

As a whole, Indiana will remain a red state as Republicans took the Secretary of State race, State Auditor seat and Treasurer position. Incumbents Connie Lawson, Tera Klutz and Kelly Mitchell were re-elected for those roles. They had campaigned together on a statewide GOP bus tour the weekend prior to Election Day.

WLFI is reporting that Democratic challenger Chris Campbell has unseated incumbent Republican Sally Siegrist in the race for State Representative in District 26. Siegrist conceded late Tuesday night. Campbell finished with 56 percent of the vote. District 26 includes most of West Lafayette and some portions of Lafayette.

WTHR is reporting that voters have approved a $6.25 million dollar referendum for mental health, safety programs and retaining and recruiting Noblesville Schools teachers. The plan received 13,868 yes votes to 10,030 no votes. A large part of the money would focus on mental health.

Metro is also reporting that Vice President Mike Pence’s brother is on his way to Washington as Greg Pence has won Indiana’s 6th Congressional District seat. That’s the same House seat Mike Pence won 18 years ago to launch his political career.
