Bret Kyle Lawson, 60, Rossville, passed away Monday, June 6, 2022, in Jacksonville, FL. He was born March 4, 1962, in Frankfort, to Lonny L. and Elizabeth “Liz” (Calhoun) Lawson.
Bret was a 1980 graduate of Rossville High School. He was the owner of Sunshine Lawn Service in Florida for 25 years before moving back to Indiana where he worked for Team MJV and NHK. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, being outdoors and decorating for and celebrating Christmas. He had a passion for singing and music. He was a singer for several bands and enjoyed karaoke. While in Florida, he entered the Jax Idol contest where he finished as the runner-up, and went on to be the host of the contest for several years. His true love was his family. He loved spending time with his family, especially his mother and his nieces and nephews.
Along with his mother, Bret is survived by his brothers, Lonny G. (Shellie) Lawson and Jim (Susan) Lawson; nieces and nephews, Desiaray, Cassie, Alex, Logan, Kirsten, Emma and Evan; several great nieces and nephews, and special friend, Sandi Harris and her family.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Deneise Lawson.
Visitation will be held, Thursday, June 16, 2022, from 4 to 7 pm at Genda Funeral Home ~ Rossville Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Friday, June 17, at the funeral home. Pastor Eric Alwine will officiate. Burial will follow at Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Bret’s honor to the Rossville Music Boosters, via Paypal, where a scholarship will be established in his name for upcoming students.
