State Sen. Brian Buchanan (R-Lebanon) visits the Monon Civic Preservation Society (MCPS) Tuesday, Sept. 4. Buchanan and Jim Davis, member of MCPS, discussed the society’s goals and challenges, theater project and community needs.
MCPS was initially founded to save the Monon Theater, one of Monon’s significant historic buildings, from demolition. MCPS continues to encourage historic and cultural interests in the community by securing and restoring a Monon Railroad caboose, creating Caboose Park, adding Monon Railroad memorabilia to the park, designing and installing a memorial to honor Monon Railroad employees and continuing to renovate the theater.
