Camp Cullom Hosts Observatory Open House Friday Night July 5

Camp Cullom is a 90 acre Camp owned by the Children of Clinton County.  Camp Cullom has over 5 miles of marked trails, a 24 hole disc golf course, nature center, meandering stream and two ponds, wooded highlands and wetland area, a lodge with fireplace and much more.

Camp Cullom also is home of Prairie Grass Observatory. The observatory has the following features designed to spark a love of nature and STEM subjects for our area children.

  • 4 telescopes including the 28 inch computerized scope that is one of the largest in Indiana. (Two large Scopes will be set up Friday night)
  • Galileo Gallery to view space movies under the stars and enjoy a constellation laser lecture with “lean back” seating.
  • Giant 100 mm binoculars 25X and 40X provide breathtaking views of the Milky Way, moon, star clusters and….jet airplanes.
  • Meteorite collection.  Hold a “falling star” in your hand.  
  • Maps and Sky/Star Atlas on display
  • Light and wind protected area designed to enhance the star gazing experience.

Prairie Grass surrounding the observatory is entering into its peak floral display time of year. Come early and take a hike through the 13 acre stand of prairie grass.
