Carol A. Schaffer

Carol A. Shaffer, 70, of Frankfort, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2020, at Wesley Manor Heath Care in Frankfort. She was born May 29,1949 , in Indianapolis, to Horace G. and Dorothy E. (Stoelting) Abdon.  Carol married Robert Shaffer on August 14, 1971. He survives.

Carol graduated from Arlington High School in 1967 and attended Indiana University Bloomington earning her B.S. in Medical Technology in 1971. Her senior year, she was the local and national sweetheart of Kappa Delta Rho.  She worked for Riley Hospital, Lafayette Home Hospital, and Clinton County Hospital as a Medical Technologist (ASCP).  She was a member of the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church.  She was a long time Yoga instructor at the YMCA, a Tri Kappa member and served on the boards of Camp Cullom and the Sycamore Girl Scout Council.  Carol enjoyed tandem bicycling with Bob, raising their children, and participating at the YMCA.  She was a Master Naturalist, enjoyed crocheting and was very active with Girl Scouts for a long period of time, and was co-chairman of the local Girl Scout Cookie Sales for many years.

Carol is survived by her husband of Frankfort; three daughters, Jennifer S. (Matt) O’Donnell of Big Rock, IL, Cynthia S. (Justin) Long of Frankfort, Susan S. (Todd) Jones of Elwood, IN; one brother, Dr. Richard (Linda) Abdon of Indianapolis; her sister, Nancy (Richard) McCord of Westminster, MD; 9 grandchildren, Charli, Ellie and Katie O’Donnell, Jason and Jarah Long, Addie, Ava, Ivy and Luke Jones.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held on March 8, 2020 from 1pm until the time of the funeral service at 4pm at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Frankfort.  Pastor Kelly Kurth will officiate.  Genda Funeral Home is assisting with the funeral arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Cullom or the YMCA Yoga Program in honor of Carol.
