Carol Sue Smith, 86, Mulberry, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Franciscan Hospital in Lafayette. She was born in Lafayette on December 19, 1936, to Bernard Paul and Florence Mae (Jackson) Russell. She married Herman Smith on December 20, 1952. He preceded her in death in 2012.
Carol attended Stockwell High School. She had her own cleaning services for 35 years and worked at Mulberry Health and Retirement Center. She was a member of Trinity Church of Mulberry where she was a past deacon, sang in the choir, worked as a custodian, and frequently helped with children’s programs. She was also a member of the Mulberry Community Club and the Purdue Extension Homemakers Choir. Carol had a servant’s heart. She would give and help however she could, whenever she could, even when she may not have been in the best health. She was awarded the Clinton County Gem Award in 2020. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, and spending time with family.
Carol is survived by her daughters, Debie (Terry) Brooks and Paula (Rick) Bennett; daughter-in-law, Coral Smith; brothers, George (Marlene) Russell and Larry (Pat) Russell; sister, Phyllis (Brian) Peck; grandchildren, Jay (Brandy) Brooks, Nick (Allie) Smith, Holly (Andy) Brown, Matthew (Valerie) Bennett, Mike (Cassie) Bennett; and great grandchildren, Avery and Evey Brooks, Logan and Zeke Brown, Maddy Smith, Taylor, Trevor, Stella and Noah Bennett.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terry Smith; sisters, Nancy Brown, Barbara McKinney; and a great grandchild, Jackson Bennett.
Visitation will be held, Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 10am until the time of the service at 1pm Trinity Church of Mulberry. Pastor Phil Whisler will officiate. Burial will follow at Fair Haven Cemetery. Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Mulberry Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.
