Mrs. Carol Gehlbach Travis, aged 72, died early January 26, 2020, due to complications from pancreatic cancer.
Carol was born to Clifford LeRoy and Audrey (Amy) Gehlbach on March 3, 1947, in Corydon, Indiana. She was the little sister to her older brothers Arthur and Richard Gehlbach. She had a loving childhood and fondly remembered summer vacations around the country to visit relatives.
Carol graduated from Corydon High School in 1965 and attended Indiana University at Bloomington, earning her BS in Education in 1970. During her freshman year, she met her future husband, Terry M. Travis. They married on August 24, 1968, at the Pfrimmer’s Chapel Church near Corydon in Harrison County. While her husband was in Viet Nam, Carol taught at the Switzerland County (Indiana) High School. Carol had twins – Michael Sean and Jennifer Anne – in 1972. Starting in 1982 she worked at the Clinton Prairie High School in Clinton County, first as a part-time Library Assistant and then as the full-time Librarian. While employed at CPHS, she was an active member of the Indiana State Teachers Association. Carol retired in 2008. She loved taking tickets at Clinton Prairie sporting events even after she retired.
She enjoyed quilting, cooking, reading and watching mysteries, working on all kinds of puzzles, watching sports, and using social media. Carol also enjoyed traveling. She returned to the states which she first visited as a child, seeing every state except Maine. After her much-deserved retirement, Carol visited Europe nine times with her husband and daughter.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents and oldest brother Art. She is survived by her husband Terry, brother Richard (Carolyn), son Michael (Becky), daughter Jennifer, and grandchildren Miles and Sylvia.
Carol was a loving and beloved wife, mother, cousin, and friend. She was creative, helpful, positive, and always smiling. Carol will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorial visitation will be held Sunday, February 9, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until the start of the service 3:00 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home Mulberry Chapel. A memorial will also be held in the spring at the Pfrimmer’s Chapel Church, Corydon, Indiana.
