The Carroll County Clerk’s Office released a statement regarding three rumors pertaining to the election that it deemed as “not factual” to aid with ensuring the community of its election integrity.
The Clerk’s Office stated that no person was removed from a polling location at any point for any reason during the early voting stages of the 2024 General Election. The Clerk’s Office stated that a rumor was circulating that a person was shouting at the Monical’s polling location and was escorted from the premises. The Clerk’s Office stated that the incident did not occur.
The Clerk’s Office further stated that while lines may be longer than usual due to higher voter turnout this year, voters have not waited in line for 2.5 hours despite current rumors circulating around the community. The office stated that during busy moments, the wait time may have been slightly more than one hour for voters.
The third rumor addressed by the office circulated around votes being changed following the casting of the ballot by a voter.
There is no way for votes to be changed unless the voter changes them. The marking machine is just that, a marking device, it only marks what is selected.
Some voters are confused as to how the straight party vote works. If you have questions, please ask for help and the poll workers can help you or answer your questions.
The marking machine gives you a review screen prior to printing out your ballot. Be diligent in looking at this prior to printing out your ballot. You should also verify the ballot once it is printed out.
If there is a discrepancy at any point, stop and ask for assistance.
Your vote matters, and you need to feel confident that your choices are being accurately tabulated.
The Clerk’s Office encouraged community members to reach out directly to the team if questions arise in the future. The Clerk’s Office may be reached at 765-564-4485.
