Carroll County EMS has launched a program for National Stop the Bleed Month this May to educate
community members about the necessity to stop the bleeding for injured citizens, friends and family members that may need immediate assistance.
According to Carroll County EMS, bleeding is the number on cause of preventable death from injuries, and people may die from bleeding within three to five minutes depending on the severity of the blood flow. The department also stated that ambulances arrive to sites of emergencies within seven to 10 minutes, which could cause the injured person to die before the ambulance arrives if the bleeding is too severe. As well, Carroll County EMS stated that around 40% of trauma-related deaths are due to bleeding.
Carroll County community members have an opportunity to learn how to potentially save a life by attending a free course instructed by paramedic Jake Norwell at the Flora Station across the street from Carroll High School. Norwell acts as a licensed “Stop the Bleed” instructor and harnesses all of the tools necessary to teach community members how to save a life through bandaging, pressure applying and much more.
