Carroll County Junior Leaders Strive For 10,000 Pound Goal For ‘Stock The Trailer’ Event At 4-H Fair

The Carroll County Junior Leaders have invited community members attending the Carroll County 4-H Fair to bring non-perishable food items with them for the “Stock The Trailer” event.

The event was created with a mission to fight against hunger by providing food items to community members in need across various communities by Farm Credit Mid-America and Rural 1st. The event acts as a challenge for the participating communities to collect non-perishable food items to have the chance to receive a prize.

According to the contest, all participating county fairs will receive $500, and additional prizes are awarded based on the total pounds of food donated through the county with first-place receiving $5,000, second-place receiving $3,500 and third-place receiving $1,500.

The event will kick off for Carroll County from July 13 through July 20 where community members can deliver non-perishable food items or money to the Indiana Kitchen trailer near the Merchants building at the county fairgrounds during the fair. All of the items collected will be donated to local food banks.

For Carroll County, the items will be donated to the Carroll County food pantries in Flora, Delphi and Camden as well as Carroll Manor.

The project was sponsored by Farm Credit with partnerships with IPC, Legacy Meats and Ken Leavy Storage. IPC donated the trailer for the Carroll County Junior Leaders to utilize for the event, Legacy Meats offered to help with processing if animals are donated for fresh meat and Ken Leavy allowed the leaders to store the items collected before the fair.

Collection boxes and collection jars for monetary donations may begin circulating around the Carroll County community toward the beginning of June, and the donations will be utilized to purchase items to be placed on the trailer at the start of the fair.

The Carroll County Junior Leaders are striving to hit their goal of 10,000 pounds of food collected through this event this year.
