Carroll County Lifts Burn Ban Amidst Rainy Days

The Carroll County Commissioners officially removed the burn ban utilizing Executive Order Number 2024-03 today, Sept. 25 due to the recent rains and the continued chances of rain reducing fire threats.

As of 11 a.m. today, Sept. 25, the Commissioners have lifted the burn ban for all Carroll County residents only a week after its issuance on Sept. 18. The burn ban was originally projected to be in effect until Oct. 18.

Original Issuance Article by Carl Gingerich:

The Carroll County Board of Commissioners released further information regarding the issuance of a burn ban that began yesterday, Wednesday, Sept. 18 for Carroll County residents.

According to the official issuance of the burn ban, “The Board of Commissioners finds there is a hazard of fire currently throughout Carroll County due to extremely dry weather, and that such hazard constitutes a threat to public safety.” Due to the findings, the Commissioners found it necessary in the interest of pubic safety to ban open burning and related activities pursuant to Carroll County Code 130.03.

Per the executive order, open burning and related activities have been prohibited until 11 a.m. on Oct. 18 unless rescinded prior to the date. The order may be renewed or extended by the Commissioners in the next regular meeting or special meeting.

The order stated that it shall be executed in unincorporated areas by the Sheriff of Carroll County upon citation of the order, and law enforcement officers of other jurisdictions in Carroll County may issue citations for the violations as well.

Citations for violation may be issued using and modifying the form of uniform complaint and summons provided in Indiana Code 9-30-3-6 or other form of citation approved by the Commissioners. The complaint and summons orders the appearance of the respondent before the Commissioners at a date and time during a regular session of the Board’s meetings within 30 days of the issuance. The citation will be filed in the office of the Auditor.

The order was enacted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
