The Carroll Cougars take on the Pioneer Panthers tonight in Flora for the Sectional 42 Championship.
The Panthers sit at 10-1, ranked in the top five in 1A and led by senior quarterback Micah Rans, whose posted over 1000 yards on the ground and 29 total touchdowns.
Pioneer defeated the previously undefeated Frontier Falcons 42-6 in the Sectional semi-final. The Panthers feature one of the top defenses in the state, holding opponents to just 9.5 points per game.
Carroll comes in at 7-3 after escaping with a win against Taylor last week, 20-19.
The Cougars’ run-heavy offense is headlined by senior running backs Aiden Wiles and Emery Deaton, and quarterback Cale Peters.
Blake Betzner is in his fifth year at Carroll and has amassed a 49-11 record and three sectional titles.
The Cougars are looking to avenge last year’s tournament loss to Pioneer. The Panthers took down Carroll 49-7 behind 322 yards and five touchdowns from Micah Rans in the 2024 Sectional semi-final. Pioneer went on to lose to Taylor in the Sectional championship.
