One of the mainstays in the Clinton County Courthouse has decided it’s time to call it quits and move on to another aspect of her life.

Cathy Hamilton, who was worked for Clinton County for the past 13 years, including the last 10 as Clinton County Auditor, bid farewell Tuesday at a retirement party for her in the meeting room of the Clinton County Commissioners where she spent many of her days.

“It’s been a great experience and I just appreciate everyone’s support throughout my 10 years,” said Hamilton. “I’m ready to retire.”

Hamilton was asked what she enjoyed most about her years of service.

“Just the people helping me through things,” she said. “I’ve helped them through things and we’ve worked well together.”

It was commonplace for Hamilton to be at meetings for the Clinton County Commissioners and Clinton County Council in addition to the Frankfort Clinton County Airport Authority Board where she has decided to stay on for one more year.

New Clinton County Auditor Britt Ostler talks about her predecessor.

“She’s meant a lot,” said Ostler. “She’s really helped lead the auditor’s office. The Council and the Commissioners have all become reliant on her. I just want to make sure I keep her traditions going.”

Commissioners President Josh Uitts said he’s going to miss Hamilton being around to help out.

Asked what he admired most, Uitts said “Her commitment to excellence. There weren’t any mistakes. It was very, very thorough. I never had to worry about things being done right.

“She’s been invaluable to me and the Board of Commissioners, especially me, as a young Commissioner,” Uitts continued. “Anytime I had questions about anything that had to do with Clinton County, especially the finances, she was the go-to person and still is for most of us.”

Ostler concurred when it came to having Hamilton’s assistance.

“She’s been a tremendous help,” said Ostler. “I really have enjoyed working with her and she’s been a tremendous support system for the transition into auditor.”

Hamilton knows the county is going to be in good hands with Ostler.

“Britt’s done a great job,” said Hamilton. “She’ll just take over and I won’t have to worry about anything.”
