Following a lengthy investigation, the cause of July’s commercial structure fire at Werner & Son, Inc. has been ruled undetermined. The fire was reviewed and investigated by three insurance adjusters, two electrical engineers, and two Frankfort Fire Investigators. Investigators were able to confirm that the fire started on the northeast side of the plant but could not determine the exact cause.
Lead Investigator Dustin Phillips commented on the ruling saying, “Fire suppression tactics necessary to extinguish the fire complicated our investigation. Excavators were brought in to clear the debris so that hot spots could be extinguished. The rearrangement of machinery and debris reduced our ability to identify the exact cause of the fire leading us to rule the fire undetermined.”
Frankfort Firefighters were dispatched to the fire that devastated the building at 600 West Kyger Street on July 29. More than forty firefighters from Frankfort and Lebanon fought the blaze which was extinguished without injuries.
