The Clinton Central Cross Country junior high teams continued their strong start to the season Saturday, August 29, at the Mav Stampede, competing against a large field of runners and turning in several impressive performances.
The junior high girls finished third out of 14 teams, just one point behind the second-place team. The boys placed eighth out of 16 teams.
The girls competed in a field of 169 runners and placed three runners in the top 16 and five in the top 50. Eliza Yoder led the Bulldogs with a 12th-place finish in 12:57. Kennedy Rule followed in 14th place with a time of 13:06, while Jade Swanke finished 16th in 13:08.
Reese Ferrel placed 27th in 13:56, and Lilly Paris rounded out the Bulldogs’ top five with a 49th-place finish in 14:45. Carolina Aleman finished 75th in 15:49, followed by Della LaPlante in 80th at 16:14, Adrian Sosbe in 86th at 16:28 and Jordyn Smith in 102nd at 17:20.
One of the highlights for the girls was the continued improvement throughout the team, with every CCXC runner recording a season-best time.
CCXC Junior High Girls Results
The junior high boys competed in an even larger field, with 287 runners representing 16 teams. The Bulldogs finished eighth overall while also posting several season-best performances.
Graham Wellman led the boys with a 27th-place finish in 11:57. Mason Ferrel followed in 31st place at 12:05. Wyatt Davis finished 60th in 12:56, while Joseph Faulkner placed 77th in 13:14. Gannon Corkwell rounded out the team’s scoring five with a 148th-place finish in 14:45.
Liam Moore finished 187th in 15:35, followed by Denver Doolittle in 188th at 15:36. Carter Lucas and Cohen Lee both finished 261st, with times of 18:23.
The boys also showed significant improvement. Eight of the nine runners lowered their season-best times by at least 20 seconds. Corkwell posted one of the biggest improvements, cutting 43 seconds from his time at last year’s Mav Stampede.
CCXC Junior High Boys Results
The Mav Stampede provided another strong competition for the CCXC junior high teams, with both squads earning solid team finishes while runners throughout the teams continued to improve and drop significant amounts of time.
