According to recently released U.S. Census data, the City of Kokomo has seen an increase of 72 residents from 2017 to 2018. The U.S. Census releases new population estimates each year. The next decennial census will take place in 2020.
The latest estimate places Kokomo’s 2018 population at 57,869, marking the second year in a row the population has increased.
“Kokomo is exceeding expectations,” said Mayor Greg Goodnight. “Even though this is a modest increase, these census numbers show we are doing better than many of our peer cities that are losing population.”
Mayor Goodnight attributes the increase to the ongoing quality of place efforts over past decade in Kokomo.
“Once again, we see cities that are doing well are the ones making these kinds of improvements,” Goodnight said. “Investments focused on quality of life pay dividends in the form of new residents and talent attraction.”
