Charles L. “Chuck” Toney

Charles L. “Chuck” Toney, 73, of Frankfort, died April 4, 2020 at his home after battling cancer for the past year.  Born May 8, 1946 in Clinton County, Ind. to Edward D. & Alice D. Toney.  He married Teresa M. (Ball) Schimmel on December 2, 2008 in Frankfort and she survives.

Chuck attended Lebanon High School.  A decorated veteran of the U.S. Marines, he served two tours during the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart.  Following Vietnam, he was dispatcher for the Clinton County Sheriff Department, and in 1999 he retired after 26 years as a Frankfort Police Officer.  He then became lead security guard for Caterpillar in Lafayette and was the Building Inspector for the City of Frankfort under Mayor Chris Pippenger.  Chuck was a lifetime member of the VFW.  He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, riding his Harley motorcycle and loved attending his grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by his Wife:  Teresa Toney of Frankfort, Step-Mother:  Harriett J. Toney of Frankfort, Step-Father: Jesse Caldwell of Crawfordsville, Daughter:  Lesley Jenkins of Indianapolis, 4 Sons:  Ronnie Toney of Frankfort, Steve Toney of Frankfort, Scott Toney of Arizona and Troy Toney of Georgia, Step-Daughter:  Kylee Schimmel of Frankfort, 2 Step-Sons:  Levi Schimmel and Joshua Schimmel both of Kilmore, Father-in-Law:  Duard R. Ball of Frankfort, 2 Brothers:  Billy G. Caldwell of Frankfort and Ray (Sandy) Toney of Plymouth, 4 Sisters:  Julia Roberts of Tennessee, Nina Barkley of Frankfort, Christine (Don) Baker of Frankfort, Cindy Miner of Frankfort, 13 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Toney

Funeral Celebration:

 On Friday, April 10, 2020 family will receive visitors for a drive-thru viewing from 1-3 p.m.  under the portico at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort, due to COVID-19 restrictions.  Family services will begin at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.  This service will be live streamed, to participate, look for the link on our website.   Burial with military honors be in Fairhaven Cemetery, Mulberry.  Memorial donations may be made to the Frankfort VFW to honor our Vietnam Veterans.  Please visit goodwinfuneralhome.com, where you may share a personal message with the family.
