Charles Lee Johnson

Charles Lee Johnson, 88, of Flora, is now with the Lord. He is in no more pain and no more suffering. Charles passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side, on Monday, September 20, 2021. He lived a full life of love, faith, and hard work. Charles was born on November 2, 1932, in the same home he lived his first 18, and last 54 years, to Carl C. and Ina (Snider) Johnson. He married Maureen Ann Reilly on June 23, 1956, in Flora, IN; she survives.

Charlie graduated from Flora High School in 1952. He served for 2 years in the U.S Army. Over the years, Charlie worked for Smith Construction, US Postal Service, Wertz Construction, Brim Concrete, Essex Wire, Allegiance Wire and Wisler Electric. He volunteered for the Flora Fire Department, was a lifetime member of the Living Faith Church of the Brethren where he also served as a deacon. Charlie was a member of the Carroll County Antique Tractor Association, and the Flora Highwaymen Motorcycle Club in the early 60’s. Charlie enjoyed square dancing for several years, traveling, and being a Scoutmaster for Troop #144 of Flora for several years.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Maureen, of Flora; daughter, Cheryl A. Shaffer of Flora; sons, David Clark (Linda Lou) Johnson, Philip Lee Johnson, and Todd Alan (Jeanna) Johnson of Flora; brother, Robert Dean (Sandra) Johnson of Flora; sisters-in-law, Waneta Johnson and Laney Johnson of St. Charles Missouri; brother-in-law, Ed Brewster of Burlington; friend, Joan Ross of Delphi; grandchildren include, Chad (Jessica) Shaffer, Tori Shaffer, Chelsie (Ryan) Pendleton, Austin (Ashley) Johnson, Alex (Brandi) Johnson, Leslie (Shawn) Wright, Riley Johnson, Seth Johnson, Corey (Amanda) Johnson, and Mercedes (Troy) Patton. Charlie also is survived by 10 great grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael D. Johnson; grandson, Matthew Phillippo; son-in-law, Todd M. Shaffer; brothers, Paul S. Johnson and Harold C. Johnson; sisters, Emma Jane Shriver and Carol Brewster; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Shriver.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Living Faith Church of the Brethren, 310 N 250 W, Flora, IN 46929. Pastor Guy Studebaker and Jerry Sibbitt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Maple Lawn Cemetery, with military rites.
