City Council Approves Two Ordinances For Code Enforcement

The Frankfort City Council passed a pair of ordinances involving code enforcement on both second and third reading Monday night.

“We have one parking code enforcement officer as our ordinance states right now that’s allowed to enforce parking in the downtown,” said Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes. “The ordinance that was shifted gives our police department the ability to transfer that authority to other individuals when our one code enforcement parking officer isn’t there for a day.”

The council also passed another ordinance involving code enforcement parking on second reading. That ordinance will be brought back for third reading at the next meeting on January 28.

Also, the council passed a pair of resolutions involving the Utility Service Board. First, was a resolution approving payment in lieu of taxes to the City of Frankfort from the USB for the 2018 tax year.

“For this year, we slightly amended the resolution so the payments will be quarterly,” said McBarnes. “We’ll still be receiving $400,000, but it will be $100,000 quarterly. This will help our cash flow.”

The other resolution changed the amount of taxes the USB pays the city from $400,000 to $350,000.

“Moving into next year, our committee has decided that we’re going to reduce the amount to $350,000,” said McBarnes. “That is in an effort to help the utility service board fully fund the pension plan for utility retirees.”

The end results will be quarterly payments of $87,500 quarterly beginning next year.

In other action, the council named councilman David Hussey to the Economic Development Commission, reinstated Joe Palmer and Todd Corrie to the Frankfort Redevelopment Commission and named Jim Moyer as President Pro Tem.
