On Monday morning, one of the most anticipated activities took on State Road 28 West  — the groundbreaking for the new Frankfort Police Department building took place.

“This is a great day,” said Frankfort Police Chief Scott Shoemaker. “So many people are here. The weather’s great. Everything has worked out. It’s been going on for two-and-a-half years.”

The new facility will be located next to Brock Grain on State Road 28. According to Shoemaker, the move-in date is October of 2023.

Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets was excited about the project.

“This is going to be a great facility for the police officers,” said Sheets. “They are going to be able to have what they need.”

Sheets added the facility will benefit more than just the police department.

“This is going to be good for our community,” said Sheets. “It’s a good location as we move out towards the interstate which will probably be in a  year, year-and-a-half.”

Sheets added the project right now is priced between $9 million and $9.5 million.
