City of Frankfort Recycling Schedule to Change

The City of Frankfort is changing weekly curbside recycling pickup while Werner & Son, Inc. work to restore their recycling capabilities. Werner & Son has been the city’s drop-off site for all curbside recycling collection for the past eight years. Due to the fire that ravaged their Kyger Street facility on July 29, they no longer have a place to store the recycling typically delivered there each week.

Due to a lack of storage space, the city will be unable to collect all city recycling at one time. Rather than canceling all curbside pickup, the street department will collect the recycling for one-quarter of the city residents each week. All residents will have their recycling collected once per month until Werner & Son is back up and running. Curbside recycling will be collected by quadrant during the month of August. The schedule for recycling collection will be:

  • August 7 – Southeast
  • August 14 – Northwest
  • August 21 – Northeast
  • August 28 – Southwest

According to Street Superintendent Jason Forsythe, “The city collects more than 110,000 pounds of recycling each month and we don’t have the storage capacity at the street department to handle that quantity of recycling. We are making these adjustments to our collection schedule based on our available manpower and storage space.”

Residents can drop off their recycling at the Street Department located at 905 Burlington Ave on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
