Clinton Central Clamps Down on Union City for Class 1A Semi-State Semifinal Victory

Clinton Central moved one step closer to playing for a state girls’ basketball championship by defeating Union City 42-18 in the first Semi-State game at Case Arena in Frankfort Saturday morning.

The win lifted the Lady Bulldogs, 25-1, into the Class 1A Semi-State championship against either Caston or Marquette Catholic. Uuion City finishes 14-14.

It was the second straight game that Clinton Central held a team to 18 total points in a contest. The first one came in the regional final against Northfield the previous week. It was also the second straight week that the Lady Bulldogs kept its opponent off the scoreboard for a quarter. They held Northfield scoreless in the second and third quarters last week and held Union City scoreless Saturday in the fourth quarter.

Clinton Central scored the first 11 points of the game and nearly held Union City scoreless until a late basket made it 11-2 after the first quarter.

Kortney Surber led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points. Sara Parkison scored 10 and Carly Davison added nine.

Clinton Central will play in the Semi-State championship game tonight at 7:30 p.m. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. on WILO Radio, 1570 AM, 96.9 FM and 102.7 FM, with the tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m. Don Stock and Karl Kercheval will have all the action.
