Clinton Central FFA Earns Four State Championships

The Clinton Central FFA had 32 FFA members compete in Leadership Development Events at the Indiana State FFA Convention. The chapter was awarded the Models of Innovation in Student Development and took home a Top Ten Chapter in the state of Indiana honor for the 14th consecutive year. Olivia Wyrick was voted in as the 2018-2019 District V President, taking on the responsibility of all the chapters located within the district. The chapter had a total of 13 members place 1st in the state.

The Agriculture Communications team was State Champions and will compete at the National FFA Convention this upcoming fall. Team members were Olivia Wyrick, Kallie Mennen, Marisol Villegas, and Macy Ostler. Team members had to present a Media Plan as well as take a communications and editing quiz. Members also completed various communications practicums including writing and designing.

The Food Science team also won a State Championship and will compete at the National FFA Convention this upcoming fall. Team members were Katie Faulkner, Jacob Habegger, Marisol Villegas, and Caleb Price. Team members did a team activity developing a food product and a food safety sanitation report. Individually, the members identified aromas, took a quiz, and several other practicums.

The Agriculture Sales team won a State Championship and will compete at the National FFA Convention this upcoming fall. Team members were Isaac Archibald, Karson Patton, Sam Fox and Harm Smith. Team members did a team sales activity and completed individual sales and took a quiz.

The Agricultural Business team placed 4th in the state. Members consisted of Isaac Archibald, Kayla Faulkner, Emily Ragsdale, and Mackenzie McWhirt. The members completed a test and evaluated data about different farms.

The Chapter was pleased to have seven Hoosier Degree recipients. Corey Niemen, Katie Faulkner, Mitchell Farrell, Olivia Wyrick, Jacob Habegger, Caleb Price, and Cale Lucas earned the highest degree on the state of Indiana.

Isaac Archibald won the State Championship in Plant/Soil Demonstration. Kayla Faulkner and Ally Webster took home 2nd place with their Ag Business Demonstration. Members Lillian Cline and Makenzee Smith placed 4th with their Horticultural Discovery Demonstration and Keegan Padgett was 3rd in Agriculture Education CDE. Erica McWhirt also competed in the Animal Science Discovery Degree Demonstration as did Addy Weaver in Agriculture Education CDE. The Discovery Degree Agricultural Issues team and Ag Mechanics team also competed at this State Convention but did not make top four.

The Clinton Central FFA Chapter would like to thank all the volunteers that came in and listened to several presentations. The help and time you gave to the members is greatly appreciated.

My ultimate three goals for students is for them to set high goals, work harder then most would work and expect more from themselves then most would expect and I think we accomplished that this State Convention”, adds Agriculture Teacher Roger Carr.
