Clinton Central Rolls Past Taylor in Hoosier Heartland Action

Clinton Central rushed for over 400 yards en route to a convincing 40-10 Hoosier Heartland Conference victory over Taylor Friday night in Michigantown.

Sophomore running back Anthony Ransford rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Quarterback Spencer Smith completed 6 of 10 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Ross Cripe and Payton Moore each had a rushing and a receiving touchdown and Owen Smith added a touchdown.

Cripe led the defense with 10 tackles. Owen Smith was next with nine stops, including two tackles for a loss.

With the victory, the Bulldogs improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Hoosier Heartland ahead of Friday night’s road contest in Greentown against unbeaten Eastern, 5-0 and 2-0. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Girls’ Volleyball

Frankfort took second in its Hot Dog Invitational on Saturday. FHS defeated Carroll and Madison Grant, but began the day with a three-game loss to Benton Central. Ashley Timmons had 25 kills, 24 digs and 5 blocks; Kimee Kingma had 20 kills; Emily Michael had 14 kills and 3 aces; Avery Drew had 51 digs and 4 aces; Riley Isgrigg had 70 assists and 5 aces; Chloe Roberts had 15 kills and 4 blocks; Allyson Timmons had 6 kills and 6 blocks; and Lindsey Gay had 14 digs.

On Thursday, Frankfort won the first two games before losing to Western Boone in the deciding fifth game 15-13 in Dover. Ashley Timmons had 12 kills and 11 digs, Drew had 24 digs, Isgrigg had 37 assists and 7 kills, Kingma had 12 kills and 6 digs and Gay finished with 21 digs.

Girls’ Golf

Frankfort’s Katy Benefiel qualified for the regional with a qualifying score of 94 at the sectional held Saturday at Coyote Crossing Golf Course in Lafayette. The team finished their season shooting 407 to finish sixth.

Frankfort took fifth in the Sagamore Conference meet earlier in the week. Sydney Cesare led the team with a 93 and earned first team all-conference. Benefiel shot a 94 which was goo enough for second team all-conference.

Cross Country

The Frankfort boys’ cross country team finished seventh out of 30 teams and the girls’ cross country team finished 19th out of 34 teams in the New Prairie Invitational on Saturday. Hugo Hernandez led the boys with a seventh-place finish in a time of 17:19. Blazia Sallee led the girls by finishing 64th in 22:46.

Soccer

Frankfort lost 4-0 to Western Thursday in boys’ soccer action at FHS. On Tuesday, Rogelio Angeles had three goals as Frankfort blanked Southmont 4-0. In girls’ soccer action, Frankfort lost 5-4 to North Montgomery on penalty kicks.
