Owen Smith hit Logan Harris with a 32-yard touchdown pass midway through the fourth quarter to help lead Clinton Central to a 20-16 victory over Frankfort in the season opener for both teams Friday night in Frankfort.
Anthony Ransford had 132 yards rushing to lead Clinton Central to the victory.
“We did not have the result we had hoped for but the guys showed determination and grit,” said Frankfort head coach James Byers. “We got behind early but battled back throughout the entire game. The defense settled in after the first two drives and played extremely hard. They forced four turnovers and Ramsey Mitchell scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery.”
Byers added the offense struggled at time but also very good at times.
“Finding consistency is the key,” said Byers. “Quarterback Sam Michael did a great job throwing the ball and wide receivers Jade Ayers and Kyle Earl each had several big catches. Riley Goodnight had a long touchdown and the offensive line made some great blocks.”
On Saturday, Frankfort’s junior varsity defeated Clinton Central in Michigantown.
“Our team overcame many challenges in the game and worked together to find a way to win,” said Byers. “Doug Wood lead the offense while Braxton Wood and Westin Laverty each had a big game at wide receiver. The defense put together a tremendous group effort and sealed the win with a fourth down stand. Jakob Burns and Garek Birge had big games playing both defensive back and wide receiver and added in several big plays of their own.”
