Clinton County Fair Being Proactive on Pig Influenza

The Indiana Department of Health has issued a warning after a person was infected by the H3N2 Influenza.  The state department says a Hoosier developed the flu after being exposed to pigs at a county fair. This is the first reported human case of this particular type of flu in Indiana since 2013.

Officials say you can protect yourself by not putting anything in your mouth while in a livestock show arena and by washing your hands after attending pig exhibits.  The H3N2 flu cannot be transmitted by eating pork products.

The Clinton County Fair Council is working to make sure all areas at the Clinton County & 4-H Fair is a safe place to be.  Fair Council member Skip Davis says, “The council is working to place more hand sanitizing stations around the fairgrounds, and especially in the livestock area.  We have purchased 10 new hand sanitizers and Healthy Communities of Clinton County has contributed 10 additional hand sanitizer units. New stands have also been built.”

Davis adds, “You can expect to see these stations throughout the livestock area and at each food vendor during the fair, July 7-15.”
