Clinton County Legislators: Don’t Miss Oct. 31 Deadline for Partnernship

State Reps. Mark Genda (R-Frankfort) and Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo) encourage local college students and recent graduates to apply online for an internship at the Indiana Statehouse before the Oct. 31 deadline.

The House of Representatives offers paid spring internships to college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors. Interns will receive $900 biweekly while working at the Indiana Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis during the 2024 legislative session, which begins in January and concludes mid-March.

Genda said interested Hoosiers should visitindianahouserepublicans.com/internship and complete the application before Oct. 31.

“Interns are able to learn, gain professional experience, and network with state and local leaders, which can lead to opportunities in a number of different career paths,” Genda said. “I encourage any interested student or recent graduate to apply now.”

According to VanNatter, positions are available in legislative operations where interns work directly with constituents and help track committee activity. The communications department is looking for interns to help write press releases and email newsletters, and work with social media, graphic design and audio/video production. The policy department is also in need of interns to help research, track and analyze legislation.

“We rely on interns for a variety of tasks like communicating with constituents, editing video content and researching legislation,” VanNatter said. “Students and recent graduates should consider the benefits this program presents, like networking and professional development, and apply before the deadline.”

Internships are full time, Monday through Friday, and include free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through the student’s college or university. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
