Clinton County Probation Warns Of Scam Related To ‘Outstanding Warrants’

Clinton County Probation has issued a warning regarding a scam that has been circulating where a caller will attempt to persuade a person on the Sex Offender Registry that a warrant has been issued for their arrest.

Probation announced that reports have been received that scammers are calling people on the Sex Offender Registry and stating that the caller is employed by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office. The caller will attempt to convince the recipient that a warrant has been issued for their arrest due to their failure to submit a DNA test. The caller will attempt to persuade the recipient to wire $1,600 to their account to avoid an arrest.

Probation stated that the scam has no validity, and suspected scam calls should be reported to local law enforcement to ensure that the public is alerted by the scam’s presence.

Probation encouraged the community to call the office if questions arise about a warrant.
