The Clinton County GOP Lincoln Day Dinner was held Thursday night in the 4-H Building at the Clinton County Fairgrounds.

Following an introduction by Clinton County Republican Chairman Jim Moyer, all Republican candidates for the upcoming primary elections on May 8 were introduced to the crowd as well as a brief statement by State Representative Todd Rokita, who said Senator Joe Donnelly must be defeated because of his recent actions in Washington D.C.

Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson was the guest speaker. Lawson spoke of election security.

“We’re doing everything we possibly can to not only prevent hacking or intrusion into our statewide voter registration information system,” said Lawson. “The public also needs to understand our voting machines are not connected to the Internet and neither are the tabulation machines. That’s a very important message.”

Lawson spoke about the alleged Russian involvement in the last election.

“Their intent is to drive those people who are on the right farther to the right and the people on the left farther to the left,” said Lawson. “That way, there doesn’t seem to be a way we can all get together and be diplomatic with one another. I truly believe that is their intent.”

Lawson was asked what message she would like to tell the voters for the upcoming elections.

“We want everybody to vote and we want everybody to participate,” said Lawson. “There were no changes of any votes in 2016. It was the will of the people that was carried out and we intend to have the will of the people carried out in 2018.”

Dinner was catered by Shoup’s Country Foods.
