Clinton County Sheriff’s Office Looking for Merit Deputy

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the position of Merit Deputy. Starting salary for probationary deputies is $48,000. The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office has a lateral entry program (current police officers and ILEA waiver/certified candidates) including vacation days, non-probationary deputy salary, and a take home vehicle after completion of the field training program.

RESERVES:

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for Tier 2 Reserve Deputies! Tier 2 Reserve Deputies will be assigned to special events (parades, the fair, etc.), service of the Courts, and other duties as directed by the Sheriff or his designee. Tier 2 Reserve:

  1. Reserves are volunteers who are sworn officers of the law.  Tier 2 reserves will have limited       arrest powers/duties, and are considered a law enforcement officer.  Reserves are not paid and           do not receive any benefits from Clinton County or CCSO, except as designated by the Sheriff.
  2. CCSO may supply Reserves with equipment such as uniforms, duty belt, accessories, weapons,                and ammunition.  This equipment is to be considered the property of CCSO and must be      returned if the Reserve resigns or is dismissed from his or her position with the agency.
  3. Per Merit Rule 8-1.1, the Sheriff shall establish duty hours for all agency employees.  Duty hours               for Reserves are as follows:
  4. Minimum of 24 work hours per calendar month, unless excused by the Sheriff or his designee(s)
  5. Reserves should work a minimum of 3 shifts per calendar month.
  6. Shifts are to be no longer than 12 hours in length, unless an emergency situation dictates otherwise
  7. Reserves are to notify the Dispatch Center and shift personnel when they are on duty and at      the end of their shift.  Reserves must also state their approximate end of shift time.
  8. Reserves must show activity during hours worked.
  9. Reserves are exempt from Merit Rule 8-1.3 which requires sworn officers to be on twenty-four (24) hour call.
  10. Reserves are exempt from Merit Rules 8-3 through 8-6, which establish paid sick leave, vacation, holidays, and personal days.  Reserves do not receive paid leave benefits.
  11. Tier 2 Reserves will complete the 40 hour pre-basic alongside a training program pertinent to their duties.
