Clinton County Wind Energy Open House At Fairgrounds

E.ON is hosting a wind energy open house Thursday Evening September 12th at the Edward Jones Community Building at the Clinton County Fairgrounds.  The event is sponsored by E.ON and will outline a proposed Clinton County wind energy project to build 35 to 52 turbines on the East Side of Clinton County.  The proposed project is a $250,000,000 project with possible impact on funding for schools, hospital, road construction, temporary and permanent jobs and long term income for some farmers.

There will be a free Shoup’s BBQ dinner to share facts and answer questions about wind energy in Clinton County. The event starts Thursday September 12 at 5PM and question and answer breakout will last until 9pm.  Attendees can expect expert presenters, information booths, financial impact data, Q&A sessions, hourly prize drawing and more.

• Health (Dr. Mark Roberts): Learn about the health and safety considerations involved with turbines, including sound, light flicker, ice throw and more.

• Sound (Dr. Michael Hankard): Like all mechanical systems, wind turbines produce some sound when they operate. Learn how turbine sound compares (at various distances) to things like a house fan, lawn mower, ocean waves, etc. Learn how proper siting and insulating materials are used to minimize sound impacts.

• Property Values (Mike MaRous): Learn about the impact windfarms can have on property values.

• Environmental (Courtney Dohoney): Learn about the environmental considerations and studies done in advance of responsible project siting. See what E.ON does to mitigate possible impacts to local land and environments.

The project site encompasses 39,085 leased acres across seven townships in the eastern half of Clinton County: Forest, Johnson, Kirklin, Michigan, Owen, Sugar Creek and Warren. E.ON has 290 lease agreements with 300+ leaseholders and project supporters.
