Clinton Prairie Baseball Wins Sectional Title

The Clinton Prairie baseball team won the Class 1A Sectional 54 title on Monday. Defeating the Clinton Central Bulldogs 13-3 in six innings.

The year of the Gopher continues, as another Gopher athletic team snaps a long sectional drought. For the baseball team, it’s the first Sectional Championship since 1993.

The Gophers had to win three games to claim the Sectional crown, they defeated Bethesda Christian 4-0, Rossville 12-10, and Clinton Central 13-3.

Clinton Prairie took control early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first. The game was broken open in the third as the Gophers batted around and plated six runs.

The Bulldogs got three back between the third and fourth and threatened for more with the bases loaded and one out, but an infield fly and a groundout stranded three.

The Gophers added to their lead in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before closing it out to win in six.

Dylan Thomas had a great day at the plate, collecting three hits and driving in 5 runs. Kye Jacobs added two hits, including a triple, and scored three runs. Cayden Robinson earned the win, throwing four innings.

The Gophers will play Riverton Parke on Saturday in the Regional Championship. The game will be at 11 a.m. at Loeb Stadium in Lafayette, and Clinton Prairie will be the visitors.

Congratulations to the Sectional Champions, the Clinton Prairie Gophers.
