Clinton Prairie Boys Golf Combines Veteran Experience With Talented Youth

The Clinton Prairie boys’ golf team has shown tremendous growth during the 2025 season. The team shot a season low 169 on the front nine at Deer Track Golf Course last Friday.

“We’ve been fortunate this year; we’ve got three returners, Jake Swinford, Logan Townsend, and Keaton Williams,” Clinton Prairie boys’ golf coach Jim Cullom said. “They’ve been playing the top five quite a bit and have been big contributors to our successes. We also have a freshman, Adam Brucken, who’s been shooting in the high thirties; he’s contributed tremendously to our success.

On Friday, the Gophers played at their home course, the Deer Track Golf Course, and defeated Carroll, shooting a season low 169.

Brucken tied the lowest score since 2005, shooting a 35. Other scorers included Logan Townsend – 41, Jake Swinford – 46, Rhett Whitlock – 47, and Keaton Williams – 48.

The Clinton Prairie Boys Golf Team defeated Carroll on Friday, May 2. Shooting a season low of 169.

A freshman being thrust into a big role can sometimes lead to growing pains, but the team has supported each other throughout.

“I think the whole team is always around him, we have a great team chemistry,” Cullom said. “We have twelve players total, and they all work really well together. (Brucken) has, in my observation, lifted up the seniors, and they have accepted him really well. They just seem to gel well together.”

The Gophers have put together some strong outings throughout the season, finishing eighth at the Rossville Invite and second at the Clinton Central Invite. They also picked up wins against Western Boone, Delphi, Frontier, Sheridan, and Carroll.

“We generally have three goals at the beginning of the year; we’d like to win county, we’d like to win the conference, and we’d like to place in the top five at Sectionals,” Cullom said. “And we’d like to get a couple of players through Sectionals and into Regional.”

The Gophers still have about a month left before Sectional action begins on June 5. Clinton Prairie joins Benton Central, Carroll (Flora), Clinton Central, Delphi Community, Faith Christian, Harrison, Lafayette Central Catholic, Lafayette Jefferson, McCutcheon, Rossville, and West Lafayette at the Battle Ground Golf Club for Sectional action.
