This past weekend June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th members of the Clinton Prairie FFA chapter put on their annual Red & Black Classic.
Many once knew this show to be a single sheep show on the first Sunday of June every year, but in the last two years, these members have turned it into something much more.
This year they planned and organized a goat show on the evening of the second, a swine show lasting all day on the third, and the sheep show on the fourth.
They also brought multiple vendors onto the fairgrounds for the weekend, including the Clinton County Jr. Leaders, who opened up the Jr. Leaders stand that we all enjoy during the fair. These shows were a hit, bringing about 400 animals onto the fairgrounds during those three days.
The money the chapter was able to make from the event will be spent taking members to the Indiana State FFA convention here in a few weeks and will allow the chapter to complete numerous other activities throughout the 2023-2024 school year. The Red and Black Classic is many members’ favorite event because of how rewarding the process is, and the fun and friendly atmosphere they are able to create on show days.
This event is entirely student-run and led, the members of Clinton Prairie formed a committee back in December to begin planning for this year. This committee was led by Sidney (Julian) Stinson and included Addy Chambers, Aidan Fleener, Alex Taylor, Andrew Thatcher, Danae Krum, Emma Sipple, Julia Stillwell, Grace Good, Kaitlyn Beck, Karson Neal, Mackenzie Moore, Lauren Anderson, Lyhia Hayden, Marcos Espinoza, Owen Lucas, Sydney Damrow, Tatum Moore, and Ivy Hill. With only a handful of seniors, this was a very young committee of people that will continue to keep the Red & Black Classic growing and thriving.
