The Clinton Prairie Gophers are competing at the baseball Semi-State for the first time in program history.
They’ll take on Fort Wayne Canterbury at Loeb Stadium in Lafayette in the semifinal at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The Gophers (21-7) won three games in Sectionals, including a 12-10 victory over the No. 2-ranked Rossville Hornets. The Gophers are ranked No. 4 in 1A in the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association rankings.
In the Regional round, Clinton Prairie overcame a 4-0 deficit to win 8-7 over Riverton Parke and claim the first-ever Regional Championship.
Clinton Prairie is led by Kye Jacobs, the junior is hitting .535 with three home runs and 24 stolen bases.
Cayden Robinson has been excellent on the mound for the Gophers. In 42 innings, Robinson has a 1.67 ERA and an 8-0 record.
Fort Wayne Canterbury (13-8) defeated Lakewood Park Christian and Fremont to claim a Sectional title. In the Regional game, the Cavaliers defeated Triton 6-4.
The Cavaliers average seven runs per game, while giving up 6.7.
Sophomore catcher Noah Hayes leads the Cavaliers in batting average, .472, and on-base percentage, .641.
Andrew Maloblocki and JP Rohwer form a strong pitching duo for Fort Wayne Canterbury. Maloblocki has a 1.77 ERA in 47.1 innings, and Rohwer is 4-0 with a 2.10 ERA.
If the Gophers get past Fort Wayne Canterbury, they’ll play the winner of No. 1 Kouts and Union City in the Semi-State Championship game at 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
