Clinton Prairie defeated Clinton Central in the Hoosierland TV Softball Game of the Week on Thursday.
The Gophers jumped on top early, scoring seven runs across the first three innings, and held on to win 10-2.
After an RBI hit by pitch by Maddy Wessell in the first, Alexis Perez drove in a run with a fielder’s choice, and the Gophers scored again on a throwing error.
The Gophers added three more in the second inning, including two on an RBI single by Perez. Perez finished with three hits and three RBIs on the day.
Sadie Weliver shut down the Bulldogs from the circle. After giving up a run in the second and third, Weliver fired four consecutive scoreless innings. The senior also collected two doubles and scored twice.
Weliver was named The Farmers Bank Player of the Game for her performance.
Keera Grizzle had a strong day for Clinton Prairie as well, finishing with three hits and an RBI.
The Gophers picked up win number eight on the year and moved to 3-1 in the Hoosier Heartland.
Clinton Central fell to 3-8-1 and is still in search of its first conference win.
