Clinton Prairie Withdraws From State Football Playoffs

Clinton Prairie High School has officially withdrawn from the Class A football tournament due to COVID-19.

In a prepared statement, Prairie Athletic Director Brian Eaton said “The Clinton Prairie vs. Traders Point Sectional 42 semifinal football game has been canceled as we were forced to withdraw from the tournament. The contact tracing that heavily impacted our team was related to a positive case on the Carroll football team. While this is a disappointing end to the season, our team should be extremely proud of the great strides they made this year. There is no doubt they were playing their best football of the season the last couple of weeks of the season.”

This means that Traders Point automatically advances into the sectional final on November 6 against the winner of Clinton Central and Lafayette Central Catholic, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday night in Michigantown. That game is still on as of Wednesday morning, according to Clinton Central Superintendent Al Remaly.

IHSAA rules state when a team can’t participate in a scheduled tournament on the date it is supposed to, that team automatically forfeits the contest.

WILO will have more on this situation as it materializes.
