Inside INdiana Business is reporting the Indianapolis Colts are set Tuesday to formally introduce their new head coach. Frank Reich, who most recently served as offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles, has been named to the position after New England Patriots Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels went back on an agreement to lead the Colts.
Reich was a coach for the Colts from 2006-2011, serving as wide receivers coach, quarterbacks coach, offensive assistant and coaching intern. Colts owner Jim Irsay says “Frank has all the ingredients of a successful head coach: intelligence, innovation, character, organizational and leadership skills, and a commanding presence. He also has a stellar reputation, and his myriad of life experiences and the people he has worked with make him the perfect fit for us and our fans. I feel extremely fortunate and could not be more excited for Colts Nation and the future of our franchise.”
The team says Reich signed a contract Sunday. He served as the Eagles OC for the last two seasons and was the OC for the San Diego Chargers in 2014 and 2015. During his NFL playing days, Reich was the long-time backup to Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly and stepped in as starter to lead the team on a 32-point comeback — the largest in league history — over the Houston Oilers in a 1992 Wild Card round Playoff game.
