One of the oldest running traditions in Clinton County may about to be coming to an end as the Clinton County Commissioners announced Monday they are seriously considering having the Clinton County Courthouse open on Thursday afternoon.
“We’ve been looking at that,” said Clinton County Commissioners President Scott Shoemaker. “It’s been talked about ever since I’ve been a county official. No matter where I go somebody always asks why are closed at noon.I believe the county is big enough and busy enough to keep it open.
“Our plan is to kind of rotate those days off instead of having employees work more and let the department heads figure that out,” continued Shoemaker. “It would take about $300,000 of additional payroll to increase the employee work week which will not happen. Our goal is to be open every day.”
Shoemaker added he hopes to have this accomplished by February or March.
Shoemaker also announced that Clinton County Highway Superintendent Kevin Myers has been named president of the Indiana Association of County Highway Engineers and Supervisors for 2018. Shoemaker added the announcement was made at a recent commissioners conference.
In other news, the commissioners also elected to condemn five properties, some of which have been on the books since 2015. In addition, the commissioners approved a three-year contract with Smith’s Lawn Care for snow removal.
