Community Coming Together to Honor and Support 8 Victims and Families in Car Accident

A “Concerned Citizens Group” in Clinton County came together today to rally around families of the eight victims who died this weekend in a tragic three vehicle accident.

The eight Clinton County residents who died were all from Frankfort.

About 30 people gathered at C&R Catering to brainstorm and discuss ways the families caught in the tragedy can be supported.  Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets expressed condolences to the families on behalf of the City of Frankfort and expressed interest and willingness to help as possible.

Events are being planned over the next 3 or 4 weeks.  The first event will be this Friday April 21 from 4:30 to 7:30 at C&R Catering. DRIVE-BY food pick up will be available. Volunteers will deliver your food order directly to your car and proceeds will support the families surviving the accident.  Anyone can drive by and order four fried Taquitos and Rice dinner from C&R  Catering for $10.00 per dinner. C&R Catering is located at 8 South Main Street in Frankfort. Optional dessert is $5.

Several ideas are being planned to continue the support, including:

  • Dessert Auction at a local church
  • Giant Garage Sale (your items and purchases welcome)
  • Tamales Night Sale at a location to be announced
  • Possible Concert night at Prairie Street Park (pass the hat or love offering admission)

The details of all these events will be posted on a website by Wednesday April 19.  www.lnocc.org (The Learning Network of Clinton County)

Several ideas were discussed to help raise funds for necessary expenses for families of accident victims.  Monica Blaisdell Zarate, assistant director at the Learning Network,  address the community group at C&R Catering.

Several people at the meeting warned of false “Go Fund Me” accounts that may not help the right families.  For this reason, The Farmers Bank has an account called “In Memory” or “En La Memoria” that will funnel the funds to the families involved.  Proceeds from the events listed above will also funnel into this Farmers Bank Account for disposition to families.

T-Shirts from the Learning Network will be available for sale.  Design Hub is producing the T-Shirt and will be available soon.  Artwork below shows front and back of T-Shirt designed by Jennifer Davis.
