Clinton County Veteran’s Service Officer Joe Root has announced that due to unforeseen circumstances, he is delaying ordering paver bricks until February 15. Cost of the paver bricks and the amount of donation is $100. Root’s office hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. His phone number is 765-659-6389.

 

The AARP Tax Aide program is offering free assistance for low to moderate income and elderly taxpayers beginning Wednesday, February 6. Most returns are e-filed and all volunteers assisting with taxes must pass a test to be certified preparers. Tax assistance is available in Harmony Hall at Wesley Manor on Wednesday beginning February 6. Sessions at Wesley Manor will continue on Thursday, February 7; Wednesday, February 13, Thursday, February 14; and each Wednesday through April 10 by appointment. Call 656-2111 to schedule an appointment between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tax assistance is also available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays beginning February 21 and continuing through April 11 at the Frankfort Neighborhood Center.

 

Clinton County Adult Education at The Learning Network of Clinton County offers classes to study for the TASC exam (formerly GED). We have open learning lab study hours Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4-8 p.m.  We also prepare students to become eligible for free work certification programs such as CNA, CDL, Welding, or HVAC. Our English as a Second Language classes cater to individuals seeking to improve English skills at beginning, intermediate, or advanced levels. We have open enrollment for ELL classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4-8 p.m.. The Jobs for Life Initiative is now accepting applications for Jobs for Life students. Classes begin Tuesday, February 5, at 6:30 p.m., at the First Evangelical Church, 352 W. Clinton St., Frankfort. Classes will continue each Tuesday and Thursday nights through March 28. Applications can be picked up at the church or the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce. There is no charge. Due to weather concerns, Clinton Prairie is pushing back the visit of teen mental health, suicide prevention and crisis intervention expert Jeff Yalden to Thursday, January 31, at 6 p.m. in the Clinton Prairie Auditorium. His presentation will ignite positive change in our youth and community. There will be an evening parent and community session as well as raising teens in a digital world and the impact this has on their well-being. Yalden will give his theory on teen suicide and youth mental health.

 

Faith Family Church will be hosting the No Regret’s Men’s Conference on Saturday, February 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 508 West Green Street in Frankfort. Faith Family will be one of over 100 host sites around North America hosting the conference streaming in high definition from Elmbrook Church in Wisconsin. Shine On University Day Services and school aged after care and programming is coming to Clinton County on Monday, February 11, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of the Frankfort Community Public Library, 208 W. Clinton St. If you have a loved one receiving the Medicaid waiver and are looking for day services or school aged after care and summer programming, don’t miss this meeting. Executive Director Tammy Frost will be here to share the projected opening date, location, hours of operation, transportation options and answer any questions you may have. Stop by Harry’s Coffee Bar on the lower level of the Frankfort Community Public Library during the Fire and Ice Festival on Saturday, Feb. 9 anytime from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to see Ostler slides. The slideshow will include pictures taken at both Girl and Boy Scout event in the 1950s. Zonta’s 26th Annual Chicken Noodle Supper and Country Store will be held Saturday, March 2, from 4:30-7 p.m. in the 4-H Building at the Clinton County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $9 for adults, children age 4-12 is $5 and those under age 3 are free.

 

Clinton Prairie Elementary will be holding a meeting for parents of kindergarten students on Monday, April 8, at 6 p.m. This meeting is for parents only. Prospective kindergarten students must be 5 years of age on or before August 1, 2019.
