Construction to Begin Soon for Tipton County Jail

Inside INdiana Business is reporting that officials in Tipton County will later this month break ground on the new Tipton County Jail and Sheriff’s Administration Center. The $15.1 million facility is expected to take about 13 months to complete and will replace the existing jail, which is more than 120 years old.

Indianapolis-based Performance Services is the design-builder for the project and says the nearly 36,000-square-foot facility will have an 80-bed capacity, compared to the 27-beds in the current jail. The new jail will feature an elevated control room with 360-degree visibility of inmate housing and intake/booking, as well as a public area and sheriff’s office.

The firm says the design of the building allows for future modification and expansion of the jail. The sheriff’s administration area is also designed to accommodate 20-year growth.

“Goals for this project are many, with effective stewardship of taxpayer dollars a top priority,” said Tipton County Commissioner Mark Manier. “I’m confident that the functional aspects of this facility meet Tipton County’s current and anticipated future needs for the safety and security of our citizens, Sheriff’s Department and Jail staff.”

Construction is expected to be complete by September 2019.
