County Schools Receive Resilient Youth Planning Grant

The Community Schools of Frankfort, along with Clinton Central School Corporation, Clinton Prairie School Corporation and the Frankfort Crossing School of Business & Entrepreneurship are among the 19 school corporations who will be receiving a Resilient Youth Initiative planning grant from North Central Health Services (NCHS). Through the Resilient Youth Initiative, NCHS seeks to assist schools in developing youth resiliency through evidenced-based social-emotional competency, drug resistance, and mental wellbeing curriculums.

The NCHS Resilient Youth Initiative was informed by community health conversations conducted throughout the NCHS service area in 2018, at which school administrators shared their concerns about the mental health and wellbeing of their students. These needs were confirmed by the NCHS & River Bend Hospital 2018 Community Health Needs Assessment.

Resilient Youth Initiative planning grants will provide K-12 schools and corporations grant funding and technical assistance to assess the needs of their students and evaluate the potential of evidenced-based programs to meet their needs. In May of 2019, grantees will have the opportunity to utilize planning grant insights to request Resilient Youth Implementation Grant funding from NCHS for three-year program pilots.

“We recognize this initiative is just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to developing youth resiliency,” said Stephanie Long, CEO & President, NCHS. “But when implemented well, evidenced-based social-emotional learning and substance use prevention programs can substantially improve students’ self-management and social skills and lower substance use. We appreciate the schools’ willingness to partner with us to explore the potential of these programs to improve the health and well being of the youth in our communities.”

In total, NCHS has awarded over half a million dollars in Resilient Youth Initiative planning grants to 19 school corporations in Benton, Carroll, Clinton, Fountain, Montgomery, Tippecanoe, and White counties. Other schools receiving the grant in addition to the four schools from Clinton County are Attica Consolidated School Corporation, Benton Community School Corporation, Covington Community School Corporation, Crawfordsville Community Schools, Delphi Community School Corporation, Faith Christian School, Frontier School Corporation, Lafayette Catholic School System, Lafayette School Corporation, North Montgomery Community School Corporation, South Montgomery Community School Corporation, Southeast Fountain School Corporation, Tippecanoe School Corporation, Tri-County School Corporation and Twin Lakes School Corporation.

NCHS is committed to providing health care and promoting healthy communities for the benefit of the citizens of Benton, Carroll, Clinton, Fountain, Montgomery, Tippecanoe, Warren, and White counties. Since 1999, NCHS has awarded over $65 million in grant funding to more than 200 organizations.
