At 8:10 a.m. Saturday, the Boone County Communications Center received a call of a head-on collision near County Road 600 West on State Road 47 in Boone County. Earlier 911 calls claimed a small black car was eastbound on SR 47 and was all over the roadway. As Boone County Deputies responded, another 911 call stated the vehicle had crashed.
Deputies arrived on scene and extracted Tammy Annette Kelly (45), of Kirklin, from her black Chrysler 200 and began CPR. Kelly was rushed to Witham Hospital by medics and was pronounced dead at Witham shortly after arriving.
The second driver involved, Michael Kaveney (63) of Arizona, stated he was driving his black Audi Q7L, westbound on SR 47. Kaveney stated he noticed the
black Chrysler coming eastbound towards him and appeared to be swerving. Kaveney stated the small black car traveled off of the south side of the roadway, overcorrected, and began to fishtail towards him. Kaveney swerved right but could not avoid the collision. Kaveney was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital for minor injuries.
The Boone County FACT Team was called to the scene to reconstruct. At this time, it is unclear why Kelly traveled off of the roadway. This continues to be an ongoing investigation.
