The Boone County Sheriff’s Office released additional information regarding a stolen vehicle that was recovered after being wrecked near a creek and the arrest of the man who reportedly stole the Polaris UTV.
On Monday, May 6 just after 3 p.m. Boone County Sheriff’s Office deputies were reportedly dispatched to an auto theft report that had just occurred, which led the deputies to investigate the report of a stolen Polaris UTV from the area of County Road 800 North and 1050 West.
According to the deputies, the vehicle was owned by a local farmer and was parked in a field while the owner was working in this field on his tractor when a man, who was later identified as Clarence Mcclure, 45, of Crawfordsville entered the Polaris and drove away.
Law enforcement swiftly led a pursuit of the vehicle, which was found wrecked in a woodline near a creek in the area of 1200 West and State Road 32, authorities say. After uncovering the vehicle, the department initiated a search for Mcclure headed by K9s, which reportedly led the deputies to locate a white male matching the description walking alongside State Road 32 south of the crash site, and Mcclure was apprehended and taken into custody.
“The owner has been reunited with his Polaris thanks to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement,” the department released. “We commend their swift response and dedication to ensuring justice in our community.”
Mcclure was transported to the Boone County Jail on preliminary charges of theft, Level 6 Felony, auto theft, Level 6 Felony, resisting law enforcement, Class A Misdemeanor, possession of marijuana, Class B Misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia, Class C Misdemeanor.
The Sheriff’s Office issued a reminder that all parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
