The Community Schools of Frankfort announced the hiring of Dr. Matt Rhoda as the new assistant superintendent Tuesday night. Rhoda, who is currently the principal at Oakland Elementary School in Lafayette, will officially assume his new duties on January 4, 2021.
“When he joins us, he’s going to bring an expertise at the elementary level that we need and I’m kind of missing,” said Community Schools of Frankfort Superintendent Joel McKinney. “My background is in the middle and high school. It’s nice to find someone who can work with the elementary school principals. But also somebody who is very focused on student achievement and taking our students to the next level of accomplishment.”
Rhoda has worked for the Lafayette School Corporation since 1996. He has been at Oakland Elementary since 2015 and he also served as principal at Miami Elementary in Lafayette from 2005 to 2015 and Linnwood Elementary from 2003 to 2005.
Prior to that, he was a physical education teacher in the Lafayette School Corporation from 1996 to 2003.
Rhoda is a graduate of Purdue University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He also did his graduate work at Purdue earning a Masters’ degree in school administration in 2002. He continued his studies at Indiana State University, earning his Specialist degree in educational leadership in 2017, followed by his Ph.D. in 2019, this qualifying him for his Superintendent’s License.
Also on Tuesday, it was announced that the Frankfort Education Association and the board have agreed on a new one-year contract.
“Our teachers were gracious as always,” said McKinney. “We need to get more money to our teachers. That’s absolutely true. Over time, we hope to be able to do that for our teachers.”
