The annual Five Creeks District Cub Scout Fishing Derby took place at the Frankfort Lagoons on Saturday.
A total of 16 scouts from 7 different units participated. Some scouts came all the way from Brownsburg and Plainfield.
Trophies and ribbons were awarded to scouts for various categories such as the most fish caught, largest bluegill, largest catfish, and largest “other”.
The largest bluegill measured at 10 inches, while the largest catfish landed measured at 14 inches. The largest other, a turtle, came in at 7 inches. The most fish caught by one scout was 10 fish.
One lucky scout had their name drawn from all those in attendance to win a new fishing pole. The free raffle was held in memory of Mark Glass. In addition to fishing, scouts were given the opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt during the event. Each registered scout was given a list of objects to find around the area. These items ranged from rocks of different colors, to live bugs, to an unused band-aid.
A brother and sister team discovered the most items and were awarded a trophy for their hard work.
Each year, a traveling trophy is awarded to the unit or pack with the most cub scouts in participation. This year the trophy has been awarded to Pack 338 of Frankfort. Pack 338 will maintain possession of the trophy until next year’s derby to see if it stays with them or if it gets awarded to another pack.
The Five Creeks District would like to thank the following for sponsoring the derby: Keltie & Company LLC, Schenck Specialty Hybrids, INC, and Apparelandgraphics.
