Deckard Named New EMS Director

The Clinton County Commissioners named Steven Deckard as the new Clinton County EMS Director Monday morning. Deckard, who has been with EMS since 2018, replaces Greg Miller, who retired earlier this year.

“His vision for the direction of that department was something we all are looking forward to,” said Clinton County Commissioners President Jordan Brewer. “He’s experienced in the medic field and as I mentioned in the meeting, multiple people told us that he’s one of the top, if not the best, paramedic in the state.”

Deckard had previously worked as a paramedic for Tippecanoe and Carroll counties before joining Clinton County EMS.

“I was interested in the position to best support the team of Clinton County EMS as well as to continue to advocate for patient care for this community, said Deckard. “I feel like I can bring patient awareness to the forefront here and hopefully expand the education role for Clinton County EMS.”

The Commissioners voted 2-1 to go ahead with a hospitality industry study about the possibility of a new hotel between Frankfort and Interstate 65.

“The study came from tax dollars, but its tax dollars that are derived from specifically that industry,” said Brewer. “When someone stays at a hotel in Clinton County, there’s a tax and the money goes to a separate pot that is governed by a committee — the innkeeper’s commission. The innkeeper’s commission would pay for the study.”

The cost of the study is $12,500. Brewer added if a study is not done it would be mark against the county. Also, the city and the county would own the study.

The Commissioners also approved a bid of $13,989.49 for QPH to work on the chiller repair. The air conditioning currently does not work in the courthouse.
