Kaleb Del Real hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift Rossville to a 45-44 Class 2A sectional basketball championship Saturday night it Fountain Central High School in Veedersburg.
The victory moved the Hornets, 17-7, into next Saturday’s regional at Lapel, where they will face 12th ranked Rochester at 12:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The first game of the regional will Blackford playing Wapahani at 10 a.m. The championship game is set for 8 p.m. Saturday.
Carroll, which defeated Rossville in Flora 45-42 on December 22, finishes the year at 21-4. The 21 wins is the most in school history.
Carroll led 23-9 early in the game before Rossville settled down and took a five-point lead late in the game. Sophomore Jake Skinner gave the Cougars a 44-42 lead when he hit a runner off the glass.
With six-and-a-half seconds remaining, Rossville coach Cory Dunn took a timeout to set up the final play.
Damon Shaw led Rossville with 24 points.
