Delores M. Hankins, 95, of Colfax, passed away June 20, 2026 at Wesley Manor Retirement Community. She was born on November 15, 1930 in Darlington, Indiana to Clyde Linton and Flossie Mary (Charters) Cox. She married James Plez Hankins on June 5, 1948 in Darlington and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1990.
Delores was a 1948 graduate of Bowers High School and worked for the Colfax Post Office for 29 years, 20 of which she served as Postmaster. She retired in 1990. She was a member of the Colfax Christian Church. Other memberships include: National Association of Postmaster of the US, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Hickory Homemakers, and member and past treasurer of the Colfax Community Housing.
Surviving is her daughter: Carol Jane (Michael) Brown of Michigantown, grandchildren: Joanne (Daniel) Robinette of Greenwood and Jillian (Mark) Dunbar of Colfax, great-grandchildren: Kaylin, Amara, Brinleigh, Sawyer, and Logan and great-great-grandchildren: Brylin and Soren, sons-in-law: Bill Decker of Frankfort and Alan Timmons of Frankfort, and brother-in-law: Jerry Hankins of Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters: Amy Michelle Timmons and Connie Lee Decker, 2 sisters, a brother, and her grandson: Zachary Ward.
A funeral service with Andrew Johnson officiating, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Colfax Christian Church, 314 South Clark Street, Colfax, IN 46035. Friends may visit from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery, Colfax.
